I have never been mystified by the conservative elite. They have a simple, easy-to-understand agenda.

More.

More money … more power … More of whatever it takes to continue to consolidate power and accumulate more wealth. They shamelessly lie cheat and steal while constantly rigging the game in their favor. Throughout the Bush Regime and now during Obama’s tenure we see their agenda played out daily. All you have to do is pick up a newspaper. Illegal wars. No-bid contracts. Wall Street Bailouts. Each move calculated to increase the bottom line of the “More” Agenda.

Nope. There’s no mystery behind the machinations of the conservative elite. It pays off for them.

But …

What has confounded me has been why the conservative base supports the “More” Agenda when they have never benefited from it?

We’ve seen the propaganda spewed out daily by FOX and the Limbaugh clones work on the minds of the conservative base. We’ve seen over twenty years of lies eating away at the brains of millions of Americans and we’ve all heard about the Authoritarian personality.

The authoritarian personality is an influential theory of personality developed by UC Berkeley psychologists, Theodor W. Adorno, Else Frenkel-Brunswik, Daniel Levinson, and Nevitt Sanford. The personality type is defined by nine traits that were believed to cluster together as the result of psychodynamic, childhood experiences. These traits are:

conventionalism,
authoritarian submission,
authoritarian aggression,
seeking to maintain the status quo,
superstition,
power and “toughness,”
destructiveness and cynicism,
and exaggerated concerns over sexuality (sexual repression).

In brief, the authoritarian is predisposed to follow the dictates of a strong leader and traditional, conventional values.

So it’s that simple? The ruling elite uses corporate media and their degenerate mouthpieces to bamboozle the millions of Americans who were predisposed from childhood experiences to act against their best interests? Is that it?

It’s true that if “People In Authority” lie to the masses for over a generation, you’ll get people who are crazier than shithouse rats believing Ignorance is Strength, War is Peace, and chocolate rations are up, but how do you explain the millions of Americans who don’t buy into the lies of The Elite?

Better yet … how do you explain people from within the same family who have completely different political points of view. Lately I’ve thought it might have something to do with that boogeyman word: Evolution.

I know two brothers, a few years apart, who had essentially the same upbringing. Same parents, same schools, same books, same food … same culture. One thinks Henry Kissinger was one of our greatest statesmen while the other thinks Kissinger is one of the worst war criminals who ever lived. One is a textbook example of the Authoritarian personality and the other is a liberal to the core. Is it some gene or group of genes deep in the DNA somewhere that suddenly are switched on … or off? It is something “new” in our evolutionary history where Liberal mutants from out of the blue pop up?

A study published in the March 2010 issue of the peer-reviewed scientific journal Social Psychology Quarterly explains it all for you.

Why Liberals and Atheists Are More Intelligent by Satoshi Kanazawa

Kanazawa, an evolutionary psychologist at the London School of Economics and Political Science, advances a new theory to explain why people form particular preferences and values.

In the current study, Kanazawa argues that humans are evolutionarily designed to be conservative, caring mostly about their family and friends, and being liberal, caring about an indefinite number of genetically unrelated strangers they never meet or interact with, is “evolutionarily novel.”

“Evolutionarily novel” preferences and values are those that humans are not biologically designed to have and our ancestors probably did not possess. In contrast, those that our ancestors had for millions of years are “evolutionarily familiar.”

… Similarly, religion is a byproduct of humans’ tendency to perceive agency and intention as causes of events, to see “the hands of God” at work behind otherwise natural phenomena. “Humans are evolutionarily designed to be paranoid, and they believe in God because they are paranoid,” says Kanazawa. This innate bias toward paranoia served humans well when self-preservation and protection of their families and clans depended on extreme vigilance to all potential dangers. “So, more intelligent children are more likely to grow up to go against their natural evolutionary tendency to believe in God, and they become atheists.”

Young adults who identify themselves as “not at all religious” have an average IQ of 103 during adolescence, while those who identify themselves as “very religious” have an average IQ of 97 during adolescence.

According to Kanazawa,the evolutionarily familiar is conservative and the evolutionarily novel is liberal, and more intelligent people are more likely to adopt evolutionarily novel preferences and values. The problem is … the evolutionarily familiar has outlived its usefulness. The qualities that helped humankind gain a toehold in history are rapidly proving to be counter productive to our future survival. And the dim-bulb conservative elite … and their base … literally aren’t smart enough to see that. The only way out of this multi-level mess is to utilize evolutionarily novel solutions.

Our military and intelligence analysts say the changing global climate will pose profound strategic challenges to the United States in coming decades, raising the prospect of military intervention to deal with the effects of violent storms, drought, mass migration and pandemics, but still the conservative elite and their bozo base deny global climate change because of … snow.

Our Ruling Elite, by clinging to the outmoded evolutionarily familiar, is having a psychotic break with reality. And how do you convince people they’re being irrational by using a rational argument? Can’t be done. You can only throw a net over them, pump em full of drugs, and hope after many many many therapeutic sessions with highly paid professionals they’ll have an AHA-I-see-the-light-moment.

Now then … let’s try to pull that off when the people suffering from the psychotic break from reality … own the asylum. And everything else worth owning.

Evolutionarily novel solutions ain’t gonna happen as long as evolution is a dirty word,and the evolutionarily familiar slogan of “Beware The Other … Beware The Mutant” is the message behind every single program pumped out by FOX News. A friend of mine once said that most people are just smart enough to make themselves miserable. They’re smart enough to see what has to be done … but incapable of doing anything about it.

So are we to join the rest of the dinosaurs trundling down to the tar pit … or shall we arise Mutant Nation and kick the dummies out?
