Getting Real here for a “moment”

Hey Mike,

I was just about halfway through writing a “moment” when I stopped. I think it would have been a pretty good one when I finished and maybe someday I’ll get around to banging the rest out. But not today.

Here’s what we know:

In October 2018, CNN reported there were 13,000 migrant children held in detention camps across the US.

In January 2019 the title of the article at PassBlue.com was: “How Many Immigrant Children Is the US Detaining? Nobody Knows.

Can it get any worse? It has. Today I read these articles:

ICE Is Sending Detained Kids to Adult Jails the Second They Turn 18

Across the country, teens are being handcuffed and taken out of shelters to detention facilities on their birthdays.

And just to make “worse” hellishly worse:

Thousands of migrant children were sexually abused in U.S. custody, HHS docs say

What can we realistically do about this?

We can call our Federal Elected Officials, and if applicable our State and Local Elected Officials.

That’s what we can do.

In terms of impact I have read that phone calls work best, then snail mail, and last and least effective … email.

If we do something … something may get done. If we do nothing … we guarantee nothing will change.

Regards,

Bob
